SSFC Women host Sunderland West End in first competitive home game

South Shields Women aim to prove a point this weekend when they host Sunderland West End Ladies on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

The lasses suffered a heavy blow in their opening game of the NERWFL Premier Division campaign – a 7-1 defeat away to Spennymoor Town Ladies – but they will be hoping to move past that with a positive result this time around.

They face a West End outfit who haven’t picked up any points so far this campaign.

Newly-promoted Ossett United Women beat them 7-2 just under a fortnight ago, while their match against Ponteland United Women last weekend was called off.

Annece’s thoughts

Annece Legg spoke to us ahead of this weekend’s fixture.

She said: “We head into our first home game of the season with a point to prove.

“Last week’s defeat was tough, but it’s given us motivation.

“We’ve worked hard all week, corrected mistakes, and sharpened our focus.

“Now, we’re ready to put things right.

“There’s no better place to respond than on our home turf, surrounded by the energy and support from our club and supporters.

“Sunday is our chance to bounce back and show who we are.”
