Mike Williamson and his squad return to the Wolf Competitions Stadium this Saturday to face Merthyr Town FC, just a few days after their hard-fought victory against Adam Lakeland’s Morecambe FC, beating the Shrimps 1-0 thanks to Cedwyn Scott putting the Mariners ahead in the 88th minute.
The result maintains the Mariners’ perfect start to the season, taking maximum points from all three games, scoring four and only conceding one from a spot kick against Chorley, no less than a minute into the game.
Mike praised his side, but made it clear that things can still get better from the team’s performance, see his reaction here.
Paul Michael’s Martyrs currently sit in 11th place in the Enterprise National League North on 4 points, having won their opening game of the season against Hednesford Town 2-0 thanks to a brace from Jacob Maddox. Since then, they have lost 2-1 against Spennymoor Town and drawn their previous game 2-2 against AFC Telford United.
Several new incomings have come to Pennydarren Park during the summer, most notably and one to look out for will be Iwan John, who joins from Caerphilly Athletic, where he scored an impressive 51 goals across all competitions last season, 36 of which came in the league, with Iwan being a key part in Caerphilly Athletic’s promotion to the JD Cymru South for the first time and winning the title.
