Shields make the trip to Hednesford

Mike Williamson and his squad are back on the road to face Kelvin Davis’ newly promoted Hednesford Town in the Enterprise National League North, who have come up from the Northern Premier League Premier Division, after finishing second on 77 points, runners-up to Hebburn Town.

The Pitmen were promoted to the Enterprise National League North after beating Warrington Rylands 5-4 on penalties in the Play-Off Final in 4th May 2026.

Hednesford Town have taken six points from their opening six games, starting with two losses away to Merthyr Town and at home to Scarborough Athletic, then drawing three to Southport, AFC Telford United, and most recently away to Spennymoor Town, with their only win coming at home to Harborough Town, winning the game thanks to two goals in quick succession in the 83rd and 85th minutes.

Omari Sterling-James leads the goalscoring charts for the Pitmen this season, but in support, he has ex-Mariner, Dylan Mottley-Henry, who has also scored one goal in the opening six for Davis’ side.

Williamson’s squad come into this fixture having taken 2 points from the previous two games, also after having to travel back to South Shields with points still on the line, with the fixture against Brackley Town being called off in the 38th minute due to a waterlogged pitch.
