Mike Williamson has confirmed that Paul Blackett will take on the role of Vice Captain for the 26/27 season, with Robbie Tinkler continuing as Club Captain.
Blackett signed for the Mariners in 2023, joining from Spennymoor Town, and has recently extended his stay at the Club until 2029, after another impressive season with the Mariners, scoring 30 goals in the Enterprise National League North, winning the golden boot, and featuring in the league’s Team of the Season.
South Shields FC has been home to the number nine for three years now, and it has proven to be three great years for the striker, who has scored 87 goals across his time spent at the club, with last season being his best, scoring 35 goals in total.
Blackett added:
‘It’s a great honour for me to be named as Vice Captain of the Club. For me, I see it as a great amount of trust that the Gaffer and staff have in me to be a leader in the dressing room, but also on a personal level, it shows how I have come on as a professional, to be seen as a senior player in the dressing room that some of the younger lads can look up to and I can pass on what I know to them, it’s a good feeling, and I can’t wait for the season to start.’
